While the East End of Long Island is primarily referred to as the home of the Hamptons, on the north side of the peninsula lies a charming and picturesque location famous for its wineries, farm-to-table dining establishments, rich maritime culture, easygoing vibes, and beautiful beaches. And the best base to explore all of it is the new The Shoals hotel, which will formally open to the general public in mid-May.
Located in Southold, New York, the one-of-a-kind waterside home overlooks Peconic Bay and Shelter Island, offering visitors the most stunning ocean views. What makes it distinct is that The Shoals is the first hybrid “boatel” in the location that features 20 hotel suites and 20 boat slips, making it accessible by land and sea.
The two-story residential or commercial property was designed by architect Thomas Juul-Hansen, who took motivation from the nautical heritage of the area and the historic marina on which the hotel is set. Outside showers are also available for guests to hose off after a long day out on the bay.
And speaking of the bay, if you ‘d like to explore the area’s nature maintains and hidden beaches, starting this May, the hotel can lend you its vintage 28-foot Chris-Craft charter boat to do so in design.
” The Shoals has an unique history as the previous fish market for the surrounding location,” Jonathan Tibett, among The Shoals owners and a North Fork local, told Travel + Leisure. “Our goal is to resurrect the working waterside that as soon as grew here. Among the methods we’re doing this is by thoroughly restoring the on-site Shuck Shack to allow for a completely operational oyster company.”
To do that, The Shoals partnered with Little Ram Oyster Company, a local female-owned organization, which took control of a historic waterside structure at the residential or commercial property, as soon as described as the Scallop Shack, from which the company will run its service. Little Ram Oyster Company will likewise host off-site oyster farm tours and private shucking workshops.
