Atlanta’s hospitality scene continues to grow with a noteworthy addition to the city’s Old 4th Ward area. The Darwin Hotel debuted on Dec. 13, just a mile east of downtown.
The 111-room, pet-friendly residential or commercial property stands out with a distinct range of amenities, including the city’s very first hotel pet dog park and six themed suites that cater to movie, music, and book enthusiasts. What the hotel does best is immerse guests in local culture by using a broad choice of classically Atlanta food, beverage, artwork, clothes, and even décor.
” The Darwin Hotel brings the advancement of hospitality to Atlanta’s hotel scene,” Alfonce McKinney III, the hotel’s general supervisor, told Travel + Leisure. “We offer a personal, hyper-local Atlanta experience perfectly put together and packaged up in the efficient box of a night’s stay.”
The Y’ allywood Room, referring to Atlanta’s popularity as a film production center, is the perfect vacation for cinephiles, treating them to an extra-large Television, surround sound, a popcorn machine, and movie theater lighting for the supreme movie-inspired stay. The Audiophile Room has a record gamer and vinyl records; the Library Room features a custom-made choice of books; the Bunk Bed Room is best for families; and the Glam Night Out suite uses additional vanities for visitors who are getting dolled up.
Inviting guests is a chic lobby, outfitted in wood paneling and soaring ceilings, anchored by a mural of the late civil rights activist and U.S. congressman John Lewis, who represented Atlanta’s fifth district for 17 terms.
” The inspiration behind the style was all of Atlanta, but especially its East Side,” McKinney described. “Old Fourth Ward’s belt of rusting storage facilities and trendy flats; and Little Five’s inked-up metropolitan sojourners; and The Highlands’ postage stamp– ideal cottages and boutiques; and Ponce’s neon scene and Edgewood’s train-yard grit; this ongoing evolution all came together as inspiration for the home.”
In the early morning, visitors can get breakfast pastries, cold-pressed juices, and coffee– all made locally– at the hotel’s lounge, which becomes a hip bar serving craft mixed drinks and tapas-style plates in the evenings. The home will debut a pop-up program next month highlighting dishes from different Atlanta chefs. A big yard with fire pits, hanging lights, and luxurious lounge furnishings invites visitors to stay all the time.
